The listed church Sogn Pieder ( Rhaeto-Romanic for Saint Peter) is located in Domat / Ems in the canton of Graubünden to the east below the Tuma Casti .

history

Sogn Pieder was the first parish church in Ems. It is one of the few remaining Carolingian sacred buildings in Graubünden. In 774 it was largely built on the remains of an earlier church. To the north of the church are the remains of the foundations of a larger rectangular building that may have belonged to a monk's court that King Otto gave to the Disentis Monastery on May 16, 960 .

Choir

Sogn Pieder is a simple rectangular building with a horseshoe-shaped apse that is lit through a small arched window. The steep roof and the tower in the west with its octagonal structure date from 1698 and were built on the occasion of a renovation.

At the same time, the flat strip ceiling and the ceiling paintings in 16 fields were created in the ship. They show scenes from the life of Petrus and come from Father Fridolin Eggert (1655–1709) from Disentis.

The six figures of the apostles on the nave walls, the two figures of the handing over of the keys on the wall of the choir arch and the crucifix on the west wall also date from this period. Fragments of paintings have survived on the walls of the nave.

The stained glass with the symbolism of the heavenly Jerusalem in the reconstructed arched window of the apse was created in 1979 by the Engadin artist Gian Casty (* 1914).

Renovations took place in 1932 and 1975–79.

Chapel of St. Anthony

The chapel of St. Antonius (Caplutta Sogn Antoni) with two altars, built in 1725, stands on the former castle hill. The panel paintings are from the 18th and 19th centuries. Century. The chapel was restored in 1995.
