Church of St. Albert (Kętrzyn)
The Church of St. Albert is the parish church of a Roman Catholic parish in Kętrzyn (German Rastenburg ). The municipality belongs to the Archdiocese of Warmia . The church patron is St. Albert Chmielowski .
history
In the 1980s, the northern part of the city between Bolesław Chrobry and Władysław Jagiełło streets grew into a densely populated residential area with apartment blocks and many single-family houses. The communist city administration did not comply with the wishes of the residents and the clergy to establish a parish. In 1987, a parish was finally established under Bishop Edmund Piszcz, and from November 1989 a chapel was available. It was dedicated to St. Albert Chmielowski. In 1990 the building site for a church was consecrated, and the foundations were laid the following year. Since 1998 the new building has served the local community as a parish church.
