The church in the Dietrich Bonhoeffer community center in Heilbronn 's Sontheim district is a Protestant parish church and was consecrated in 1988.

history

Starting in 1986, the Heilbronn parish built a larger community center in the south of the city at Jörg-Ratgeb-Platz according to plans by the architect Klaus Weess for the residents of the Sontheim-Ost development area and visitors to the Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences . The consecration of the church inside took place on June 12, 1988. In 2003 a memorial plaque for Dietrich Bonhoeffer was attached to the building .

description

While the community center is otherwise open and bright, the church it contains is only naturally lit by light slits in the roof and three small colored windows near the altar area. The Stuttgart sculptor Gertrud Angelika Wetzel was responsible for the artistic design of the church . Above the simple altar is a sail embroidered with silver thread in the shape of a cross. A strip of baked clay is attached above the pulpit. The three small stained glass windows to the left of the altar are decorated with abstract motifs in shades of blue, purple and gray. The two-manual organ with ten registers on alternating loops comes from the Link company in Giengen. In the bell tower attached to Jörg-Ratgeb-Platz, a ring of four bells is hung.
