Kokkola Church

The Church of Kokkola is a church in the Finnish town of Kokkola . It bears the name De Profundis ( Latin for "from the deep", after Psalm 130 ). Kokkola Church is located in the city center and, along with Kaarlela Church, is one of two churches that are shared by the Finnish- and Swedish-speaking parishes of Kokkola, two Evangelical Lutheran parishes in the Kokkola community. The modern brick building was built in 1960 according to plans by Aarne Nuortila and offers space for 1200 people.

Today's Kokkola Church is the third church building on the same site. Kokkola’s first church was a wooden cruciform church built in 1654–55. Because it had become too small, it was demolished in 1876 and replaced by a larger wooden church a year later. The second church in Kokkola burned down in 1958. The current Kokkola Church, built in its place, was consecrated in December 1960.
