Kiriakos Virvidakis

Kiriakos Virvidakis (born February 13, 1948 in Chania ) is a Greek doctor and politician and has been the mayor of Chania since 2002.

Virvidakis studied medicine at the Medical Faculty of the University of Athens , graduated in 1971 and received his master's degree in pathology in 1977 . A year later he received his doctorate . In the following years Virvidakis specialized in nephrology and from 1993 worked as an assistant professor at the Institute of Nephrology at the University of Athens and at the Sotiria Hospital.

Virvidakis has worked in hospitals for more than 23 years, has published around 150 scientific studies and is a member of various Greek and international societies, such as the International Society of Nephrology, the European Society of Nephrology, the British Royal Society of Medicine and the American National Kidney Foundation .

In 1986 he was elected to the municipal council of Chania by a majority. Virvidakis belongs to the Nea Dimokratia party . In 1998 he was re-elected to the municipal council and in October 2002 he was elected mayor of Chania.

Virvidakis is married and has two children.
