Kirktonhall
Kirktonhall is the former council building of the Scottish town of West Kilbride in the council area of North Ayrshire . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish Monument Lists in Monument Category B. Furthermore, a sundial in the garden beyond the house is classified as a monument of the highest category A.
history
The oldest parts of the former council building date from 1660. The initials R. S. and M. W. can probably be assigned to the builders . A Frank Ritchie redesigned the building extensively in 1791. The battlement reinforcement dates from 1807.
In 2009 the vacant building was added to the Scottish Register of Listed Buildings at Risk. Two years later, the spread of mold inside the building was described. Vandalism was reported for the following year. Most recently, however, in 2013, the condition of Kirktonhall was classified as relatively good and the risk as low.

Kirktonhall is in the north of the city at the confluence of Glen Road with Ritchie Street . The entrance area of the slim, three-story building is on the south-east-facing rear of the building. Columns flank the entrance portal and support a cantilevered part of the building with some gothic windows. It ends with a battlement reinforcement. The three dormers are designed in the Victorian style . The gable side is kept simple. All facades are plastered with Harl and colored gray.
sundial
An obelisk-shaped sundial rises up in the garden beyond the house . It dates from 1717 and was built by Robert Simpson in memory of his parents. The eye-catching structure is equipped with several gnomons and decorated with a coat of arms.
