The Kirov Islands ( Russian Острова (Сергея) Кирова , Ostrowa (Sergeja) Kirowa ) are an uninhabited group of islands in the Kara Sea off the north coast of Russia . Administratively, the archipelago belongs to Taimyr Raion in the Krasnoyarsk Territory . The islands are named after Sergei Mironowitsch Kirov , an important Soviet state and party official.

The Kirov Islands are about 140 kilometers north of the Siberian coast, 100 kilometers northwest of the Nordenskiöld archipelago and about 180 kilometers southwest of Severnaya Zemlya . The group consists of eight islands that extend from southwest to northeast over a length of 80 kilometers. The largest and highest island is Issachenko ( Исаченко ) with an area of 180.6 km² and a height of 57 m above sea level. The total area of the archipelago can be roughly estimated at 250 to 300 km².
The Kirov Islands are part of the Bolshoi Arktitscheski Sapovednik , (Большой Арктический государственный природный заповедник) , the largest nature reserve in Russia.
