The cherry blossom in Bonn is an annual event in the federal city of Bonn .

history

In the course of a district redevelopment, Bonn's old town was planted with the Japanese cherry blossom in the 1980s . The cherry blossom in Bonn achieved international fame after it appeared on the Facebook page "Places to see before you die". There has been no official cherry blossom festival since 2017 because residents complained about the rush.

Tourismus & Congress GmbH Bonn recorded 579 overnight stays by Japanese visitors in April 2015, an increase of 84%. During the heyday, European trips are now making targeted stops in Bonn. Since the flowering period can vary from year to year, the T&C communicates the exact date in advance to the tour operators in China and Japan. The number of regional visitors has also increased significantly.

People from all over the world, mostly Chinese and Japanese tourists, travel to Bonn to see the “Prunus serrulata” (Japanese cherry blossoms). With increasing popularity, the festival also attracts many visitors from Spain, Italy and the Netherlands to Bonn's old town.

In 2017, the number of arrivals and overnight stays rose again during the cherry blossom season. In April, a fifth of all visitors came from Asia .
