Cherry grove
The cherry grove in Vienna - Floridsdorf - Jedlesee is a sign of friendship between Japan and Austria .
background
In the course of the millennium (996–1996) when the name Austria was mentioned, Japanese partner communities from Vienna districts donated 1,000 cherry trees to the city of Vienna. A cherry grove was created in the Floridsdorf district on the Danube Island by the Jedleseer Bridge . Between 150 Kanzan cherry trees , 100 sculptures made of Schremser granite were arranged in the form of steles by the artist group to the woods .
After the establishment, an annual cherry grove festival began in 2002 based on the Japanese cherry blossom festival . The organizers are the artist group to the woods , the Forestry Office of the City of Vienna and the Japanese Embassy in Vienna.
In 2009 anniversary trees were planted upstream and marked with a metal desk with a plaque commemorating 140 years of diplomatic relations between Japan and Austria.
