Frithjof Bestmann

Frithjof Bestmann (born February 25, 1898 in Mölln ; † July 23, 1990 in Wildeshausen ) was a German Lutheran clergyman, provost and local researcher .

Life

Bestmann came from an old pastor family. His father Johann Bestmann was senior pastor in Mölln in the Duchy of Lauenburg. After studying theology, Frithjof Bestmann was ordained on March 15, 1925 in Kiel and introduced as a pastor in Hohenstein. In 1928 he became a pastor in Bassum . He took part in the Second World War as a naval pastor. After the end of the war he returned to his community. He was canon and later provost of Bassum Abbey. He retired on January 1, 1963.

In addition to his pastoral work, Bestmann dealt with the history of the town and monastery in Bassum and in 1981 suggested the establishment of the town archive in Bassum.

Bestmann died in Wildeshausen in July 1990. He found his final resting place in the cemetery in Bassum.
