The Bassum city archive is the municipal archive of the city of Bassum in the Lower Saxony district of Diepholz . It stores holdings on the history of the city of Bassum for urban history , local history or genealogical research. It is also responsible for the storage of historically valuable documents from the Bassum city administration.

history

The Bassum city archive was founded in 1981 at the suggestion of the Bassum pastor and local history researcher Frithjof Bestmann . The city of Vienna appointed Reinhard Wiens, then rector of the Bassum elementary school, to be the archivist. The archive was set up in a floor space of the Bassum primary school. After Vienna's death in 1982, the city council appointed Klaus Mencke, then rector of the Bassum secondary school, as the new archivist. Since June 1, 2014, Michael Junge, who was the head of the municipal building department until the end of March 2014, has been the archive manager.

In 1992 the archive was moved to new rooms above the Jahnturnhalle in Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Straße in the core area of Bassum. There is a work room for the archivists, a visitor room for guests and rooms for the magazine.

Stocks

The historical data center - the "memory" - of the city of Bassum houses around 30 meters of files from the time from 1655 to the present in more than 350 boxes. This file inventory is made accessible by a finding aid. The inventory also includes around 10,000 photos that reflect life in the city of Bassum.

The newspaper archive includes Bassum newspapers from 1900 to the present day. This includes various editions of the "Bassumer Zeitung" from the years 1900 to 1940. The editions of the "Bassumer Anzeiger" from 1948 to the discontinuation of this small newspaper in 1971 are completely preserved. The editions of the district newspaper from 1971 onwards are collected in bound form or as files . Because of the poor quality of the paper, the older newspapers were filmed on “ microfiche ” and can now be read on a screen with the help of a reader . A so-called " reader printer " can be used to print out sections of the filmed newspapers.

The library contains around 400 books on regional history , and the map archive contains old maps and land maps showing the development of the city.
