The Kisseljowsker Reservoir ( Russian Киселёвское водохранилище ) is located on the Kakwa River , a tributary of the Sosva , a few kilometers west of Serow in the Sverdlovsk Oblast in Russia . Its purpose is to supply water to industry (smelting works) in the city of Serov (especially in winter when the Kakwa River freezes) and to use hydropower in a hydropower plant.

The dam collapsed on June 14, 1993. 15 people were killed and the damage amounted to 56 billion rubles . The dam had previously been in operation for 15 years. The cause of the accident was a break in the locking organs of the relief devices. This caused the structure to overflow. Just a year later, a similar disaster occurred in Russia when the Tirljan Dam broke . In 1997, this finally led to the implementation of state monitoring of dams.
