history

Ms. Kistner

The history of Kistner & Siegel began when Carl Friedrich Kistner bought a music publishing company on June 1, 1831, which was founded by Heinrich Albert Probst in Leipzig in 1823, and it was renamed “HA Probst-F. Kistner ”. In 1836 Kistner named the music publishing house in “Fr. Kistner ”. After Carl Friedrich Kistner died, his brother Julius Kistner ran the publishing house as authorized signatory for Friedrich Kistner's widow, Amalie Friederike Clementine, b. Karthauß, together with Carl Gurckhaus and Bartholf Senff . In 1866 Carl Friedrich Ludwig Gurckhaus (1821–1884) bought the publishing house from the heirs. When his son Carl Otto Ludwig Gurckhaus died in 1918, his widow and heiress Magdalena Gurckhaus sold the publishing house to Carl and Richard Linnemann, the owners of CFW Siegel.

CFW seal

On January 1, 1846, Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Siegel and Edmund Stoll founded the "book and music publishing and assortment store Siegel & Stoll" in Leipzig. Four years later, Siegel and Stoll separated. Siegel took over the publishing house alone. He bought several publishers, for example part of the JG Haecker publishing house in 1852, and the "Ernst ter Meer" publishing house in Aachen a year later. In 1870 Richard Linnemann senior took over. the publisher and changed the company to "CFWSiegel's Musikalienhandlung (R. Linnemann)". His sons Carl and Richard Linnemann joined the publishing house in 1901. In 1903 they took over the book and music publisher EW Fritzsch, which Ernst Wilhelm Fritzsch had founded before 1870. In 1923 the publishing houses Kistner and Siegel merged.

Development after the Second World War

In December 1943, the publishing house was bombed out, which initially brought the publishing house to a standstill. The publishing house in Leipzig was most recently founded by Dr. Walter Lott directed, after his death by his widow and heiress Theodora Lott. Due to the political and economic circumstances, his brother Rudolf Lott and Theodora Lott re-founded the publishing house in Lippstadt in 1948 . Rudolf Lott's daughter, Marianne Feder, then ran the publishing house in Cologne from 1965 . Her daughter and heir Annette Feder took over the publishing house in 2004. Since 2008 the publishing house has been operating under the name “Fr. Kistner & CFW Siegel & Co. KG “in Brühl near Cologne and is managed by the personally liable partner Dr. Ulrich Andryk headed.
