Ibn Hauqal
Mohammed Abu l-Qasim ibn Hauqal , Arabic محمد أبو القاسم بن حوقل, DMG Muḥammad Abu l-Qāsim b. Ḥauqal (born in Nisibis , then the Arab Caliphate , now Turkey ; died after 977), was a 10th century Arab geographer and writer. Together with al-Istachri and al-Muqaddasi, he is one of the representatives of descriptive geography.
Live and act
Raised between Baghdad Shiites , he made numerous trips to North Africa , Syria , the southern Sahara , Egypt , Armenia , Azerbaijan , Mesopotamia , Iraq , Persia , Khorezmia , Transoxania and Sicily from 943 to 969 .
His geographical work is in his Kitab Surat al-Ard, written in 977 /كتاب صورة الأرض / Kitāb Ṣūratu l-Arḍ / 'Book of the Image of the Earth' and Kitab Masalik wa-l-Mamalik (“Book of Ways and Lands”) written in al-Istachris 951 have been preserved.
