René Leroy
René Leroy (born March 4, 1898 in Maisons-Laffitte ; † January 3, 1985 near Paris ; also René LeRoy or René Le Roy ) was a French flautist and music teacher .
life and career
Leroy, born in Maisons-Laffitte in 1898, studied with Adolphe Hennebains , Léopold Jean Baptiste Lafleurance and Philippe Gaubert at the Conservatoire de Paris , where he received the first prize in the flute in 1918. From 1952 to 1968 he was principal flutist in the New York City Opera Orchestra . He then worked until 1971 as a professor of chamber music at the Conservatoire de Paris. In 1966 he published a Traité de la flûte . His students included Christine Alicot , Juho Alvas , Thomas Brown , Susan Morris DeJong , Geoffrey Gilbert and Bassam Saba .
