The three-storey castle was built in the Renaissance style by Franz Freiherr von Giese around 1660 on the edge of a foothill of the Donaumoss, where the ruins of an old moated castle probably still stood . When the von Giese im Mannesmann family died out, Baron Wilhelm Adam von Weveld took over the castle in 1721 for 9,750 guilders , which he expanded in 1727 to include a two-storey baroque wing in the French style in the north and east. In 1830 Johann Baptist Freiherr von Weveld, administrator of the forced laborer's house in Munich-Au since 1807, set up a brick factory , a gardening shop and a brewery on the property around the castle , thus converting the facility into an industrial farm. This made the baron, who also trained young farmers, the largest employer in the entire area. On Black Friday 1929, the von Weveld family got into financial difficulties. The National Socialist regime drove Heribert Freiherr von Weveld to compulsorily discharge the debt by selling the so-called Weveldhaus in Neuburg an der Donau .

The castle is still owned by the family of Nicolaus Drossbach, son of Gertrud Amalie Freifrau von Weveld and Hubert Maximilian Drossbach.

In addition to concerts and other events, palace tours are offered and the large park is used for medieval markets .
