So Kitamura

Sō Kitamura ( Japanese 北 村 想 , Kitamura Sō , real name: Kitamura Kiyoshi , ( 北 村 清 司 ); born July 5, 1952 in Ōtsu , Shiga Prefecture ) is a Japanese playwright and essayist.

Life

With the help of friends, he snuck into Chūkyō University in Nagoya , attended the theater club and began to write plays. In 1976 he founded the theater group "TPO Shi-dan" ( TPO 師 ★ 団 ). After its dissolution he founded the theater group "Suisei '86" ( 彗星 '86 , 1982–1986) and "Project Nav" (1986–2003)

From 2006 to 2007 Kitamura worked as director of the "Center for Creation of Art for Citizens" in Kusatsu. He is currently working as a freelancer and has written around 140 plays to date.

In 1984 he was awarded the Kishida Kunio Prize for 11-nin no shōnen ( 十一 人 の 少年 , Eleven Boys) . In 1990 he received the Kinokuniya Theater Prize .
