Kitodo is a software package for digitization projects in libraries, archives, museums and documentation centers. It is maintained by the association of the same name. Before the renaming in May 2016, the club and software were known as Goobi . The open source software is used in particular in academic libraries in Germany. With Kitodo u. a. Manuscripts, prints, books, magazines and newspapers digitized and presented.
properties
The software package consists of the two main components Kitodo.Production and Kitodo.Presentation . These are suitable for different digitization strategies and scalable business models.
Kitodo.Production supports the digitization workflow . Technically, it is a Java application that typically runs on a Linux system with Apache Tomcat and a MySQL database. The user interface is browser-based and therefore independent of the operating system.
Kitodo.Presentation enables the public presentation of the digitized material. This software is an extension of the free content management framework TYPO3 in PHP. It is used, for example, in the DFG Viewer, the reference implementation for the digitization standards of the German Research Foundation .
The German Research Foundation also funds the further development of Kitodo.
Further components of Kitodo are Kitodo.Publication (a TYPO3 module that provides a document server), Kitodo.Contentserver and Kitodo.UGH.
