The Kitwancool Lake , also known as Kitwanga Lake or Gitanyow Lake called, is a lake in the northwest of the Canadian province of British Columbia .
The lake is located 100 km north-northeast of the city of Terrace in a wide valley running in north-south direction, which connects the river valley of the Nass River in the north with that of the Skeena River in the south. To the west lie the Nass Ranges , to the east the Kispiox Range . The 7.8 km² large lake at an altitude of 376 m has a maximum length of 7.2 km. It is divided into two basins. The north has an area of about 6.3 km², a maximum water depth of 12 m and an average water depth of 8.5 m. The southern part of the lake is about 1.5 km² in size and has a maximum water depth of 15 m and an average water depth of 12 m. The lake is traversed by the Kitwanga River in a southerly direction. The catchment area of the lake covers 169 km².
The clear lake is classified as mesotrophic . Various salmon species spawn in the Kitwanga River system. The lake is an important habitat for young salmon, especially sockeye salmon .
The British Columbia Highway 37 (Stewart-Cassiar Highway) runs along the eastern shore of the lake.
