Kiuas was a Finnish power metal band that was formed in 2000.
Band history
In 2000 the friends Mikko Salovaara, Markku Näreneva, Teemu Tuominen and Atte Tanskanen founded the band Kiuas together after they had found a singer for their band in Ilja Jalkanen. Kiuas is Finnish and means something like sauna heater .
After the two demo records The Discipline of Steel (2002) and Born Under the Northern Lights (2003) and a good placement in a metal competition, the four Finns signed a contract with Rage of Achilles Records. After problems and the subsequent separation from the label, Kiuas was able to find accommodation with Spinefarm Records and in 2005 recorded her first LP The Spirit of Ukko , which dealt thematically with the Finnish god Ukko .
In May 2006 the band released their second LP Reformation , which reached number 21 in the Finnish album charts. On March 12, 2008, the third album The New Dark Age was released , which entered the album charts at number 10. The single Of Sacrifice, Loss and Reward , previously released in February, stayed at number one in the singles charts for a week.
In October 2010 singer Ilja Jalkanen left the band. Temporary job Asim Searah officially became the new singer of Kiuas in early 2011; he left the band in September 2012, however.
On August 29, 2013, the band announced that they would split up after a final concert on October 18, 2013 in Helsinki.
