Kizimkazi (pronounced Kisimkasi), officially Kizimkazi Mkunguni , is a fishing village on the southern coast of Zanzibar , Tanzania . Mkunguni translates as "idleness". This place had 1848 inhabitants according to the 2002 census.

The earlier importance of this place is clear from the fact that it was surrounded by a city wall.

It is three kilometers southeast of the Kizimkazi Mosque (which is located in Kizimkazi Dimbani , also known by the name Dimbani). Together, these two places belong to the Kizimkazi Mtendeni area .

In addition to fishing, tourism is one of the town's main sources of income, and there are several hotel complexes in the area. Kizimkazi is known for the possibility of swimming with dolphins . These are found in large numbers on the reef edge of the coral reef . Fishermen drive tourists the one to two kilometers out to sea to swim. Twice a year, whales also roam the strait that separates the island from the mainland.

The school in Kizimkazi celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2010. German volunteers (including from the German-Tanzanian Society) support various projects there (including education and solar projects).
