The Kizimkazi Mosque at the southern end of the island of Zanzibar in Tanzania is one of the oldest Islamic buildings on the East African coast. Contrary to what the name suggests, it is not in Kizimkazi , but in Dimbani, three kilometers away . The naming comes from the fact that the official name of the two connected places is Kizimkazi Dimbani and Kizimkazi Mtendeni.

According to a surviving Kufi inscription, the mosque was built in 1107 by settlers from Shiraz (Iran). Some decorative elements made from coral limestone also date from this period. The main part of the current building was erected in the 18th century.
