A Klöntür or double-hinge door is a door , usually an exterior or house door, in which it is possible to open only the upper half of the door leaf and leave the lower half locked.

The Klöntür was common in rural areas in earlier centuries . While you could “ chat ” with your neighbors or passers-by with the door open , there was a barrier for animals. The cattle could not escape (stable door) or enter (house or hall door). In the Bergisches Land the term "Klön- und Kladdertür" was common. With the sash open at the top, light could also enter and smoke could escape from the kitchen or hallway .

Modern Klöntüren have the same functionality as their historical models. A door leaf is provided with a latch. The other door leaf can be connected to or disconnected from the first using a lever. If both door leaves are connected to each other, a Klöntür can be used like a normal house door. If they are decoupled, the upper sash fulfills the function of a window.

This type of door was often built into caravans in the past . Today they are mostly in one piece.
