Poor Clares, Nice

The Poor Clares Monastery in Nice has been a monastery of the Poor Clares in Nice in the Diocese of Nice since 1924 . The monastery is the patronage of the founder of the order, St. Consecrated to Clare of Assisi .

history

Nice Poor Clare Monastery 1604–1793

Poor Clares from Mondovì founded a convent for women in what is now Nice's old town in 1604 and built the still existing Chapelle de la Visitation Sainte-Claire in 1607 in Rue Sainte Claire. In 1793 the monastery was closed during the French Revolution . The convent buildings were taken over by the visitants from 1815 .

Today's monastery

A Périgueux community of Périgueux, resident since 1892, moved to a new monastery on the Cimiez hill in Nice in 1924 , which they still live in today (30 Avenue Sainte Colette). The Nice Convention founded two more in Montfavet ( Avignon , 1941) and Madagascar ( Antsirabe , 1968).
