Darren Kandler (* 1975 in Hornsey , London ), better known as Klashnekoff , Ricochet Klashnekoff , K-Lash , Son of Niah , The Black Russian or Freedom Fighter , is a British rapper from the Hackney district of London .

background

Little is known about himself and his background. What is certain is that his parents come from Jamaica and that he has two sons himself. As an explanation for his stage name , he sometimes pretends to come from Russia , but this is not true.

Pseudonyms

Kandler uses several pseudonyms. His best-known alter ego is "Klashnekoff", sometimes with the nickname "Ricochet". Ricochet is the French word for " ricochet ". He chose this name to express that "you don't know where it comes from or which direction it comes from".

"Klashnekoff" is a reference to the AK-47, better known as the " Kalashnikov ". It is the symbol of many independence movements, including on the flag of Mozambique . Since Kandler describes himself as a "freedom fighter" (English: freedom fighter , another of his nicknames), he chose this name.

Kandler began writing his own rhymes at the age of ten . Originally he wanted to be an actor, but dropped that idea for music. Together with some rappers he was friends with, he founded the group Terra Firma , with whom he has produced several tracks since 2001. In 2004 he released some of his songs as an album called The Sagas of ... Klashnekoff , which quickly made him famous in the UK .

In 2005 DJ Skully brought out a mix compilation called Focus Mode , which "fused" the previously recorded and rather incoherent tracks by Klashnekoff into a whole.

The album Lionheart: Tussle with the Beast , produced by Joe Buddha, followed in 2007 .

In May 2010 his album Back to the Sagas was released .
