history

The company emerged in 1990 from the merger of Klasmann Werke GmbH and the peat operations of C. Deilmann AG. In 1913 Georg Klasmann founded the Heseper peat factory, which was renamed Klasmann Werke in 1971. C. Deilmann AG began producing peat in 1920. In the first few decades, Klasmann mainly produced burned peat and built its own peat power plant in the 1920s. The associated industrial peat extraction led to Klasmann manufacturing machines for peat extraction and selling them internationally. From the late 1950s, Klasmann and Deilmann concentrated more and more on the production of growing media for commercial horticulture, and in 1974 they began developing black peat based growing media. In the 1970s, Klasmann Benelux , Klasmann France and Neuhaus Italia were the first sales companies abroad. After the merger to form Klasmann-Deilmann GmbH in 1990, raw material reserves were expanded in Germany and extensive resources were acquired in Ireland, Latvia and Lithuania. The company invested in substrate factories in Germany , Ireland , Lithuania and the Netherlands . At the same time, Klasmann-Deilmann founded subsidiaries in other European countries as well as in Asia and America in order to have a presence there.
