Klaus-Dieter Ott (* 1952 in Pinneberg ) is a German boxer and was German featherweight champion in 1978 and 1979.

Life

Klaus Dieter Ott was born in Pinneberg, worked as a car mechanic in Hanover and boxed for TSV Uetersen and TSV Korbach.

First, Ott fought for TSV Uetersen, which started in 1977 with a full season from light to heavyweight against Gdańsk, Spfr. From Poland and on December 29, 1977 against a selection from the former USSR. During this time, the division with Klaus-Dieter Ott in the HABV (Hamburg Amateur Boxing Association) was the strongest season and won the Jessen Cup three times in a row. From 1978 the division was one of the most successful seasons in boxing at national level. At that time, Klaus Dieter Ott became HABV and North German champions in his weight classes and took part in the German championships. Here Klaus Dieter Ott was German runner-up. At the 22nd European Championships in Halle (May 28 - June 5, 1977) he defeated the Scots Ian McLeod 5-0 in the preliminary round, but was eliminated in the quarter-finals 5-0 against the Romanian Tidi Tudor. At the 56th DABV Championships in Schriesheim (1978) he became German champion for the first time in his weight class (57 kg) and he was able to defend his title again at the 57th DABV Championships in Munich (1979).

Opponent Weller

Klaus-Dieter Ott took part for TSV Korbach in the decisive fight for the German team championship against the defending champion TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen , where TSV Korbach was defeated and had to bury its championship hopes by 1982. Klaus-Dieter Ott competed in this fight against René Weller , who had finished second at the European Championship. Weller appeared very self-confident in this fight and always tried to create a respectful impression, but Klaus-Dieter Ott stole the show. Ott attacked him undaunted and brought René Weller into dire straits. Ott had made the technician Weller look bad for three laps, but Weller finally won just on points. Ott was left with only the small satisfaction of having worked hard on the great Weller. The big dream of Klaus-Dieter Ott did not come true later, he wanted to defeat the technician René Weller at least once, but Weller migrated to the professional boxer camp in May 1981.
