The Klausmarbach Viaduct is a former railway bridge near Burghaun in the Fulda district in Hesse .

construction

It is a 32 meter high sandstone vault bridge that spans a valley in five 18 meter wide arches north of Burghaun and west of the small settlement of Klausmarbach . In 1938 the bridge was widened by a sandstone-faced concrete structure that was attached directly to the existing structure.

history

The viaduct was built in 1906 as part of the Hünfeld – Wenigentaft-Mansbach railway line. In the 1930s there were plans to double-track the line in order to relieve the Bebra – Fulda railway line . The Klausmarbach Viaduct was widened as the only structural measure to create the double track. After the railway traffic was discontinued in 1991, the tracks were dismantled. In 2005 the skittles cycle path was built on the former railway line, which also uses the Klausmarbach viaduct. A piece of track left on the bridge and an information board remind of the history and earlier use of the structure.
