from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kleinbahn Soltau-Neuenkirchen GmbH started operations on May 15, 1920 on the Soltau – Neuenkirchen line .

After an extension to Neuenkirchen or Rotenburg had already been considered during the construction of the Kleinbahn Lüneburg – Soltau, funds were made available in 1913 by the Kingdom of Prussia, the Province of Hanover and the District of Soltau in order to found the Kleinbahn Soltau – Neuenkirchen GmbH . Construction work began in 1914, but could not be completed during the First World War. Although there had been provisional rail operations since the beginning of 1917, the line could not be officially put into operation until May 15, 1920. It ran from the Soltau junction as a branch line only 12 km to the northwest into the heath. Passenger traffic was reduced to a pair of trains in 1927 (5.44 a.m. from Neuenkirchen; 10.10 p.m. from Soltau), which was discontinued in 1928; Passenger transport was not resumed until 1948.

The Kleinbahn Soltau-Neuenkirchen was one of the predecessor companies of the East Hanoverian Railways , in which it was incorporated in 1944.
