The Small Farmers and Rural People's Party (Finnish: Pienviljelijäin ja maalaiskansan puolue , PMP), from the 1940s onwards called the Small Farmers Party (Finnish: Pienviljelijäin puolue ), was a party in Finland . It was founded in 1936 and existed until the 1950s.

The party was formed on December 20, 1936 in Seinäjoki, western Finland, through the union of the Small Farmers' Party of Finland , the People's Party and the electoral alliance Men in Need . Eino Yliruusi became party chairman .

The party was considered populist and was viewed as left-wing because of its pacifist and anti-fascist positions. During the Second World War , she criticized the Finnish government's pro-German policy. In fact, individual branches and members of the party were connected to the Communist Party of Finland (SKP), which was illegal until 1944 . The party leadership publicly distanced itself from such contacts.

From 1939 to 1941 the party was represented by two members of the Finnish Reichstag . However, both joined the Landbund in 1941 . After the Second World War, the party's influence declined relatively quickly and no further representatives were elected to the Finnish parliament. In the 1945 election , the party entered into an electoral alliance with the left-wing socialist Democratic Union of the Finnish People . The last time she took part in the parliamentary elections in 1954.
