Little Brothers of the Gospel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Little Brothers of the Gospel are a Catholic religious community within the Spiritual Family of Charles de Foucaulds .

Just like the Little Brothers of Jesus , the Little Brothers of the Gospel refer to Charles de Foucauld in their spirituality and were founded like him by René Voillaume in 1956.

The Little Brothers of the Gospel live in small communities of three or four brothers and are close to the poor and marginalized through their work and lifestyle. They are also active in preaching and pastoral accompaniment.

The communities do not receive church taxes and have to finance themselves. So it is the rule that friars do regular secular work. The living and prayer rooms of their communities - mostly normal rental apartments - are located in normal residential areas, often in problem areas .

The fellowship today has about 65 members in sixteen countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and America. In Germany, the friars are based in Leipzig Grünau . Its members do not wear a habit or any other comparable costume, so that they are not immediately recognizable as friars.

On the night of July 29-30, 2002, Yves Lescanne, little brother of the Gospel, was killed in Maroua, Cameroon . The French brother Yves Lescanne was born on March 20, 1940 in Gironde . He took care of the abandoned children in Maroua through a small organization: "la belle étoile".
