The Small West Siberian Railway ( Russian Малая Западно-Сибирская железная дорога , Malaya West Siberian Railway ) is a narrow-gauge miniature railway in Sajelzowski Park ( Russian Заельцовский парк ) in the Russian city of Novosibirsk . The railway was opened on June 4, 2005 as a children's railway and is in operation every day except Mondays during the summer.

Route

So far the route has a length of 5.3 km. It has five stations.

history

The decision to build the children's railway in Novosibirsk was announced in August 2003 by the West Siberian Railway together with the Novosibirsk City Council. On this occasion, the foundation stone for the children's railway was laid in Sajelzowski Park, although the project was not yet fully planned. The design of the route was entrusted to the Sibgiprotrans and Scheldorprojekt institutions.

On June 4, 2005, the first phase of the children's railway was officially opened, the length of which at that time was 2,630 meters. It was put into operation on June 30, 2005 by the head of the West Siberian Railway as the twenty-third children's railway or "little railway" in Russia. The first section included a more than two hundred meter long steel pier, the Zoopark and Sportivnaya stations, an educational facility at the Sportivnaya station and the Yeltsovsky stop.

For most of the summer of 2005, there was only one train that ran back and forth with a locomotive at each end without having to relocate. On November 14, 2005 the children's railway was visited by the President of the "Russian Railways" Vladimir Yakunin.

As of August 6, 2006, the second section of the line with a length of 2670 meters was built by the “Russian Railways” in the Novosibirsk region and the Novosibirsk city administration. The second phase includes a steel pier more than three hundred meters long, two bridges with a total length of 96 meters, the Sajelzowski Park station and the Lokomotiv stop.

In 2015, the children's railway had already carried more than 480,000 passengers on its 10th anniversary.
