The locomotives of the series ТУ10 (German transcription TU10) of the Russian Railways (RŽD) are narrow-gauge diesel locomotives for use on pioneer railways .
Situation with the railways
Even after the end of the Soviet Union, the pioneer railways in Russia are operated by the Russian Railways to promote the interest of young people in a career in the railway sector. These narrow-gauge railways are currently mostly operated with diesel locomotives. The series ТУ2 (TU2) from the 1950s represents the majority of the locomotives. But there are also locomotives of the series ТУ7 or ТУ7А (TU7 or TU7A) in use, as well as occasionally steam locomotives of the series ГР (GR). Since the production of narrow-gauge locomotives was discontinued in 1994 due to the decreasing demand for locomotives for industrial and forest railways, there was a lack of suitable locomotives for existing and new pioneer railways in the early 2000s. In order to maintain a neat and modern appearance, locomotives of the TU2 series were refurbished from 2005 and provided with modified, and from 2008 completely new superstructures.
Development of the TU10
In 2008, the Kambarka machine works began developing a modern diesel locomotive specifically for the needs of the pioneer railways. A number of innovations have been incorporated on the basis of the earlier models:
- two equivalent driver's cabs
- ergonomic control station
- Air conditioning
- Diesel JaMZ-6563.10 ( Russian ЯМЗ-6563.10 ) with 169 kW at 1900 min −1 exhaust emissions according to the Euro-3 standard from the Yaroslavsky Motorny Sawod
- Four-speed differential converter transmission D864.5 from Voith
- computer-aided control for monitoring and diagnosis
- KLUB-UP ( Russian КЛУБ-УП ) train control system with GPS
- RVS-1-01 train radio ( Russian РВС-1-01 )
- automatic fire alarm and extinguishing system
The first prototype was presented in spring 2010 and delivered to St. Petersburg in August 2010. Most of the machines were painted in variations of a current RŽD color scheme with the Russian national colors (exception TU10-002 for Novomoskowsk). So far, 26 TU10s have been built (as of June 2015).
