The Little October Railway ( Russian Малая Октябрьская железная дорога , Malaja Oktjabrskaja schelesnaja doroga , MOSchD for short) is a narrow-gauge pioneer railway in the Russian city of St. Petersburg .

Route

The Kleine Oktoberbahn has an (old) northern route of 2.1 kilometers with two stations and a (new) southern route of 11.2 kilometers with three stations.

History of the northern route

The northern route was opened for passenger transport on August 27, 1948. Originally the route was 8.1 kilometers long and had three stations: Kirovskaya, Soopark and Osernaya. The original vehicle inventory included the B.32 locomotive, two PT4 locomotives (No. 088 and 089), which were given the designations PT-01 and PT-02 at MOSchD, and nine passenger cars.

At the beginning of the 1949 season, the railway got another WP1-170 steam locomotive and several cars.

In order to improve the conditions for the training of young railway workers, the children's railway received a new TU2 -167 locomotive in 1958.

In 1960, the railway received ten PAFAWAG passenger cars, which were immediately combined to form two trains of five cars - "Pioner" and "Skaska". Both trains were in circulation at the same time. Their meeting took place at the Bahnhof Zoo.

MOSchD worked in this way until the last day of the 1964 season, when a tragedy struck: After the end of operations, the train returned from the Osernaya station to Kirovskaya together with the trainer. The barrier at the intersection no longer worked. Right behind Soopark station, where the line crosses 2nd Nikitinskaya Street, the train came under the wheels of a dump truck. Four young railroad workers and a teacher were killed. After that, the route was completely closed. All vehicles except the relatively new TU2-167 locomotive were decommissioned. A compromise decision was made later: the route was to be shortened to 3.1 kilometers in order to close the most dangerous route from Kirovskaya to Soopark.

On the rest of the route - from Soopark to Osernaja - both trains were driven with TU3 diesel locomotives with the numbers TU3-001 and TU3-002 from Panevėžys , and TU2-167 was only used as a replacement in the event of a defect in one of the TU3s.

In 1969 Soopark station was renamed Pionerskaya because the zoo had not been built for over twenty years - the old name was therefore meaningless.

In 1982, in addition to the three diesel locomotives that existed before, MOSchD received two more - TU2-060 and TU2-191.

In 1985 the diesel locomotive TU3-002 was parked and in 1989 the last trip was made with the TU3-001. In May 1990 TU3-002 was bought by a narrow-gauge railway museum in Lavassaar at scrap price and exported to Estonia. In May 1996 TU3-001 was transported to a wide-gauge reserve base in Zelenogorsk.

At the beginning of the 1990s, the route was shortened again by the construction of a housing estate in Kolomiagy: the Peregonway station was closed. Since 1991 the route length of the MOSchD was only 2.1 kilometers instead of the previous 3.1 kilometers.

History of the southern route

Molodeschnaya station

In 2007, the construction of a new line of the Little October Railway from Kuptschino (Molodeschnaja station) to Pushkin (Tsarskoselskaya station), which runs parallel to the route of the Tsarskoye-Selo railway, began. The length of the route is 11.2 kilometers. The Molodeschnaja station is located near the “Kuptschino” underground station in order to increase the number of trains used. The distance from there to the Schuschary station is about two kilometers.

On July 12, 2011 the southern route of the Little October Railway was inaugurated.

A new TU10-001 locomotive was used - the first of a series specially developed for children's railways. The fleet also includes the TU2-167 diesel locomotive, 5 PW40 cars and 6 WP750 cars.

On June 1, 2014, steam traction resumed after a 49-year break. The Kp4-447 locomotive was put into service on the southern route, and in the summer of 2014 another diesel locomotive appeared on the southern route: TU10-025. It was brought onto the line as a replacement for the TU2-167 locomotive, which was brought to the depot at the Tsarskoselskaya station for major repairs.

business

The 2017 season ran from June 1 to August 29. Seven pairs of trains ran on one operating day (Thursday to Sunday) between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. One way ticket cost 150 rubles for adults and 50 rubles for children; a return ticket equivalent to 300 or 100 rubles.
