The class T 47.0 (from 1988: class 705.9 ) is a diesel locomotive for the narrow-gauge railways of the former Czechoslovak state railway ČSD. It was developed to make operation more economical on them and to replace steam operation.

ČSD series T 47.0

They were developed by ČKD in Prague at the same time as the ČSD series T 434.0 locomotives . As a result, their tried and tested diesel-electric drive was also adopted. Together with the 12 V 170 DR diesel engine, a drive concept was created that always met the requirements on the narrow-gauge lines of the ČSD ( Jindřichův Hradec , Frýdlant v Čechách , Ružomberok and Třemešná ). A total of 21 machines were delivered to ČSD. The locomotives for the narrow-gauge railway Frýdlant – Heřmanice were delivered for 750, for the remaining lines for 760 mm gauge.

In the 1950s, the Deutsche Reichsbahn considered purchasing appropriate locomotives for its 750 mm lines. A planned trial run on the Weißeritztalbahn near Dresden failed at the planning stage because of the 50-meter radius there. The acquisition of a series was originally announced for 1961.

The locomotives were delivered in two series from 1954 to 1959. With the cessation of operations in Frýdlant v Čechách and Ružomberok, the machines that were no longer needed were transferred to the remaining narrow-gauge railways. Today there are five machines in Třemešná and eight in Jindřichův Hradec. Five locomotives of the first series have now been decommissioned, as well as three more after accidents.

The locomotives 705 915 and 918 have been reconstructed in the meantime. They received a new six-cylinder LIAZ diesel engine with 242 kW and a three-phase traction generator, as well as a computer-controlled engine management system.

T 47.021, Yekaterinburg Narrow Gauge Railway Museum

45 machines were manufactured for the Soviet Union and designated there as the ТУ3 series (German transcription 'TU3'). One of these locomotives is still in the inventory of the children's railway in Lemberg (Lviv) in the Ukraine. The locomotives for the Soviet Union were built for a track width of 750 mm.
