The vehicles of the ČSD series T 434.0 (from 1960: series T 436.0 ) were diesel-electric universal locomotives of the former Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). They were the first standard-gauge mainline diesel locomotives that were used as planned in Czechoslovakia .

history

After the end of the Second World War , the ČSD had a high demand for new locomotives due to the consequences of the war, which should also be met with modern diesel locomotives. The Prague company ČKD , which designed the first two types in 1948 , received the order to develop diesel locomotives . In addition to a narrow-gauge locomotive (→ ČSD series T 47.0 ), a standard-gauge universal locomotive was also planned, of which the ČSD ordered ten.

ČKD completed the first prototype of the new T 434.0 series in 1953 with the serial number 2934. A second locomotive followed in 1955. The locomotives were tested on the Prague– Horažďovice předměstí line , where they also carried express trains.

The series locomotives T 434.003 to 008 were delivered by ČKD in 1957. The production of the last two T 434.009 and 010 locomotives ordered was canceled by ČSD in favor of the successor T 435.0 . At the end of the 1950s, the locomotives were given the correct new series designation T 436.0 because the originally intended axle travel mass was exceeded .

The locomotives were used primarily on the Praha – Most route and as push locomotives between Česká Třebová and Ústí nad Orlicí . Later all locomotives were stationed in the Bratislava depot, where they were retired in the late 1960s. No locomotive has been preserved in a museum.
