The locomotives of the series ГР (German transcription GR) of the Soviet Railways (SŽD) were narrow-gauge steam locomotives . The prototype of this series reached No. 99 in 1401 to the German National Railroad .

Series ГР of the SŽD

As part of the reparations withdrawals in the Soviet occupation zone of Germany, the Soviet Union used the Potsdam-Babelsberg plant of Maschinenbau- und Bahnbedarf AG, formerly Orenstein & Koppel , later known as VEB Lokomotivbau Karl Marx Babelsberg , for the construction of narrow-gauge steam locomotives. According to their origin, they received the series designation ГР as an abbreviation for Germanskaja reparazja (Германская репараця).

Since the locomotives were also intended for use on forest railways , they were equipped for wood firing. The fourth axis was driven. The second and third axles were laterally moveable.

In 1947 a prototype was made under the number ГР-001, it remained in the Soviet occupation zone (see below). Construction of the series with the number ГР-002 began in 1947, and another locomotive with the number ГР-001 was reproduced in 1948 under the same serial number as the prototype. By 1951, 349 ГР were built for the Soviet Union (numbers ГР-001 to 352 with a gap, probably ГР-204 to 206). The locomotives were used by the Ministry of Transport ( Ministerstwo putej soobschtschenija , MPS) as well as by forest and industrial railways. In 1953, 62 more locomotives of the ГР series were built, but all of them went to industrial railways and were individually numbered there. 1956 the ГР-415 to 420 were built, so that a total of 417 ГР were delivered to the Soviet Union.

Most of the ГР series became dispensable in the mid-1970s. They remained in use on individual industrial railways until the early 1980s. A part of the surplus ГР was still used in children's railways . Some locomotives have been preserved as monuments or museum locomotives.

99 1401 of the DR

The prototype ГР-001 was completed on April 30, 1947 and subjected to extensive testing on the Weißeritz Valley Railway from September 15 to October 20 . Subsequently, ГР-001 was assigned to the Glöwen - Havelberg line, which was put back into operation as a narrow-gauge railway , and was probably converted from wood to coal firing at this point in time. After it was taken over by the DR, ГР-001 was converted to the former Prignitzer Eisenbahn AG in Perleberg . In 1950 it was given the road number 99 1401. On January 30, 1968, it was retired.

Mansfeld mine railway 19 and 20

The Mansfeld mining railway received two GR locomotives ex works in 1954 and classified them under the numbers 19 and 20. They were retired and scrapped in 1969. The locomotive 20 II , which is now owned by the Mansfeld Mining Railway Association (MBB eV), is the former ГР-320, which was bought by the Estonian Railway Museum Lavassaare . Another locomotive of this series is available there.
