The construction of the children's train was carried out on a voluntary basis after it was launched on the initiative of the Komsomol and the public. The narrow-gauge railway was put into operation on May 19, 1958.

Initially, the 600-meter-long route surrounded the park of a sovkhoz in a ring . Initially, the passengers were transported with a rail bus and four open carriages with 15 seats each in a wooden car body. The rails were of the P-18 type.

The rail bus was replaced in 1959 by a class 159 locomotive with the serial number 6421, which has been exhibited on a pedestal at the pioneer station since 1968. In the same year, 1959, the route along Karl-Marx-Strasse was extended up to a length of 3.3 kilometers with heavier 3A rails. In 1965, 4 metal passenger cars from the Polish car factory Pafawag , each with 38 seats, were delivered and put into operation.

The Pionerskaya station was established in 1967 about 600 meters from the main line. The steam locomotive was replaced by a ТУ2 diesel locomotive in 1968 . The station building at the station was built in 1972. On the ground floor there are offices, a workshop and a waiting room, and above that a classroom equipped with visual aids.

For the technical maintenance of wagons and locomotives, a depot was built in 1979 with a pit for the inspection of the locomotives. The Polish Pafawag wagons were replaced in 1986 by domestic wagons of the type PV51 from Maschinenfabrik Demichowo , and in 1987 more modern ТУ7 diesel locomotives were used instead of the TU2 diesel locomotives.

In 1999, the reconstruction of the children's railway began. The first phase of reconstruction was completed on May 25, 2000. A repair workshop and training building were built at the pioneer station and the 3A rails on the tracks were replaced by heavier R-50s and the signals and communication facilities were modernized.
