The Orenburg Children's Railway ( Russian Оренбургская детская железная дорога , Orenburgskaja detskaja schelesnaja doroga ) is a narrow-gauge park railway in Orenburg . The line with a track width of 750 millimeters has a length of 5.8 kilometers. Today she still has three stations. The line opened on July 26, 1953 as one of the many pioneer railroads in the Soviet Union and is still in operation today.

history

The decision to build a children's train in Orenburg was made in 1953. At that time (1938–1957) the city was still temporarily called Tschkalow , in honor of the Soviet pilot Valeri Pavlovich Tschkalow and was the center of the Orenburg Railway ( Оренбургская железная дорога ). Construction began on May 19, 1953 and was completed at record speed in 68 days. The official opening of the Orenburg Children's Railway took place on July 26, 1953. The first train consisted of the steam locomotive К B 4 -017 and five four-axle passenger cars pre-revolutionary construction. There were initially three train stations and two stops on the five-kilometer route. Wooden station buildings and high platforms were erected at all stations. A little later the route was extended by eight hundred meters and the terminus was relocated. In 1957 the Strand (Пляж) stop was closed as a useless option. In 1958, all rail vehicles of the Orenburg Children's Railway were decommissioned. Old passenger cars were dismantled and converted into freight cars.

Rail vehicles

In 1958, the TU2 -008 and TU2-083 diesel locomotives were delivered. In 1986 the TU2-086 diesel locomotive was added. The diesel locomotives TU2-008 and TU2-086 were overhauled in 1999 in the Orenburg locomotive depot. The TU2-083 diesel locomotive was later decommissioned. From 2012 there were only the TU2-008 and TU2-086 locomotives. In October 2013 a new TU10-021 diesel locomotive was purchased. There are five SW-51 cars for passenger transport.

Railway stations and stops

The children's railway has four stations, one of which is closed:

  • Komsomolskaya (Комсомольская)
  • Pionerskaya (Пионерская, closed)
  • Dubki (Дубки)
  • Kirovskaya (Кировская)

The stations Pionerskaya and Dubki had track triangles for turning the steam locomotives. Komsomolskaya Central Station is located in the city center near the pedestrian bridge over the Urals River . The children's railway connects the city center with a local recreation area, in which there are several beaches and the children's health camps Kirov and Dubki.

After switching to diesel traction, the track triangle at Dubki station was completely dismantled and that at Komsomolskaya station was only partially and later completely dismantled. In 2012 the line was renewed with reinforced concrete sleepers and 5 new points.
