The little bear crayfish ( Scyllarus arctus ) is a type of crustacean from the family of bear crabs (Scyllaridae).
features
The little bear cancer reaches a length of up to 12 centimeters. The carapace is thorny and almost as wide as it is long. The second antennae are plate-like and their edges are rounded-lobed. The abdomen is more or less straight. Uropods and telson are rounded.
Occurrence
The species occurs from the Mediterranean to the Azores and south-west England, although it is rare in England. It inhabits shallow coastal waters, the bottom of which consists of gravel or coarse sand.
