The pleocyemata belong to the decapods (Decapoda). They include most of the well-known crustaceans, such as crabs , lobsters , lobsters, and prawns .

The females of the Pleocyemata carry fertilized eggs for a while on their swimming legs below her abdomen with it, in which the larvae to Protozoea- or Zoea stage created develop. In contrast , the crustaceans of the sister group of the pleocyemata, the Dendrobranchiata , do not care for the brood , their larvae hatch as nauplii . Another feature is the featherless gills.
