The Stenopodidea are a suborder of the decapods (Decapoda). It includes, among other things, the shrimp .

features

The stenopodidea is built like a shrimp . However, the first three pairs of walking legs are provided with scissors , of which the third pair typically has the largest scissors. The carapace is connected to the thorax . The eyes are petiolate. The antennas each have two flagella, the second pair of antennas each has a base (antennal peduncle) made up of five segments and a scaphocerite . The third pair of maxillipedas is very long compared to other decapods. The swimming legs have no internal appendices. The pleuron of the first abdominal segment overlaps that of the second.

Species of the Stenopodidea mostly live on coral reefs of the tropical and subtropical seas or on the muddy bottom of the deep sea , such as species of the Odontozona .

Systematics

The stenopodidea appear with the Caridea related and form with those, a clade that as a sister group opposing the remaining taxa Pleocyemata.

The Stenopodidea comprise a total of 71 recently known species within the following three families:

The families can be differentiated by body shape, the size and shape of the third maxillipedas and tips on the telson .
