The Little Hermann is a nearly six-meter high replica of the Hermann Monument . It stands on the roof of Detmolder Strasse 31, corner of Hermannstrasse, in Paderborn .

history

From 1907 to 1910 the house at Detmolder Straße 31 was built in the neo-renaissance style. For the 1900th anniversary of the Varus Battle (9 AD), the house owner and building contractor Franz Tölle commissioned the sculptor Anton Fecke to make a copy of the Hermann monument, inaugurated in 1875 . This copy was placed on the roof of the building.

During the Second World War, the house was badly damaged by aerial bombs in 1945. The corner tower with little Hermann remained undamaged. In 1960, the figure's arm and sword threatened to fall off as a result of a storm. The arm and sword were then dismantled and only attached to the Kleine Herrmann in 1988 . In 2011 the building and the little Hermann were restored.

Since 1986, the Detmold as a residential and commercial building used street house 31 is related to the little Hermann under monument protection . It is registered as number 312 in the monuments list of the city of Paderborn .

Others

Little Hermann's gaze - unlike the Hermannsdenkmal - does not look to the west, but follows the course of Detmolder Strasse, to the north. The view points roughly in the direction of the Hermann monument, a good 21 kilometers away.

Little Hermann in Herford

There is also a little Hermann in Herford . It was installed on the gable of the house at Bäckerstraße 16 at the beginning of the 20th century. In the 1990s, the house in the pedestrian zone was demolished and the almost one meter tall gold-colored statue was seized. After the house was rebuilt, it was given its place on a wall of the shoe shop, which is on the ground floor.
