The book is about the young Moritz, called Motte, who is known for his shyness and fearfulness, which is why he is teased. He lives with his parents and his older brother.

One day he is walking home from a movie with his best friend Lina. They decide to take a shortcut through a dark tunnel, where they meet a creepy dog ​​that bites Moth's hand and flees.
