A small-field keyboard , often also a mini keyboard or micro keyboard , is a keyboard that is suitable for people who are unable to use a conventional keyboard due to restricted mobility or motor weakness.

A small field keyboard is characterized by its very compact design; the keys are generally arranged at a distance of 2 to 5 mm. The keyboard layout corresponds to the standard layout, but the keys themselves are much smaller and usually round, so that it is also possible to operate them with a head or mouth stick . In addition, the pressing time of the smooth buttons can be programmed on many models.

Since a small field keyboard is designed to be operated with one hand, most of the models comprise a bearing surface for the heel of the hand . A distinction is also made between models for left and right-handers.

Even if a device is to be built small, or if there is little space, keyboards with a key spacing less than the standard 19 mm can be installed. They are well suited for entering text that is not too extensive, for example for a URL address, a short email text or a correction of a text document. These are used on public terminals for communication in an interactive exhibition, the smallest on organizers / smartphones, a pioneer was Blackberry .
