Smallest amount

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Smallest amount or picopayment (also nanopayment ) is the name given to the payment of very small sums in the range of a few cents or fractions of cents. The upper limit to so-called micropayments is fluid. While picopayments are practically non-existent in traditional retail, they are conceivable in connection with digital goods or services, for example for using a specialized database or calling up individual messages . So far, however, the practical importance has been low. Telephone charges in the fixed network have usually been quoted and calculated as fractions of a cent per call minute for years.
