The Kleinzell parish church stands on a hill in the municipality of Kleinzell in the Lilienfeld district in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church consecrated to the Assumption of Mary - incorporated into Göttweig Abbey - belongs to the Lilienfeld dean's office in the diocese of St. Pölten . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

The church was probably founded by a foundation from the Göttweig monastery in the 12th century (1120?). A parish church was documented in 1329/1330. The church was damaged during Turkish invasions in 1678 and 1683.

architecture

The church is surrounded by a cemetery with a medieval braced rubble stone wall. Access to the churchyard is from the south via a staircase.

The three-aisled Gothic church building closes the central nave with a retracted choir with a five-eighth end, the side naves are shorter and close in the north aisle with a polygon and in the south aisle with a choir bay approach. The long house roofing under a roof turret looks squat. To the south of the choir and adjoining the south aisle, there is a low sacristy under a pent roof. A baroque square-vaulted portal porch connects to the central yoke of the south aisle.

The interior of the church shows a three-bay central nave under a flat ceiling built in 1683 with baroque ornamental stucco, the central nave is open with pointed arch arcades on beveled pillars to the side aisles, there is also a pointed arch arcade in the first choir bay to the north nave. The somewhat retracted choir shows itself in the yoke as a rectangular cross-section with a five-eighth end under a ribbed vault on capped wall templates with round keystones. The four-bay late Gothic north aisle has rib vaults, which are designed to wear away at the yoke boundaries. The lower south aisle around 1417 has ribbed vaults on round services or pointed consoles. The sacristy has a barrel vault.

The stained glass, figural and ornamental, names the years 1899, 1901, and 1904.

Furnishing

The uniformly neo-Gothic interior was created around 1900. The sculptor Ludwig Linzinger created numerous statues and reliefs in 1899.

The organ positive was created by Ignaz Gatto the Elder. J. or d. Ä. 1750. A bell in the roof turret mentions 1456.
