Klemens Pütz (* 1960 in Bonn ) is a German biologist and Scientific Director of the Antarctic Research Trust .

Life

Pütz received his doctorate in 1993 from the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel on the nutritional ecology of emperor and king penguins . He then worked for three more years as a postdoctoral fellow at Kiel University, before starting in 1997 as a fisheries inspector and scientific advisor to Falklands Conservation on the Falkland Islands . During this time he was also a founding member of the Antarctic Research Trust, for which he has been active as a board member and scientific director ever since. In 2001, Pütz returned to Germany and examined the control of bird migration at the Hiddensee ornithological station using the example of the herring gull . Since 2003 he has been working as a freelance biologist and penguin researcher alongside his commitment to the Antarctic Research Trust. In addition, he has been a regular lecturer and expedition leader on various cruise ships in the Antarctic , Sub-Antarctic and, since 2009, in the Arctic since 1994 .

Act

Over 70 scientific publications and numerous appearances in the media are the result of his many years of research. He is also the author of the book "Cheeky Friends - My Life Among Penguins", published in 2018 by Ullstein Verlag, and co-author of an Antarctic travel guide and an identification book for the fauna of the Antarctic and the Sub-Antarctic. Pütz published over 100 contributions and articles with the results of his work by 2019.
