Climbing route
Climbing route (often just route , in Austria also Kletterführer or Führe , in Saxony also Kletterweg ) is a term from the field of climbing and mountaineering .
The climbing route describes the given route for climbing a summit or a rock face. The climbing routes are precisely described with levels of difficulty and some are shown as drawings. In technical jargon, these drawings are called topos . With the help of these drawings the climber can get an idea of the course of the route. In addition, there are often references to securing options, hooks and locations. If a climbing route stretches over several pitches, the degree of difficulty of each individual pitch as well as the so-called key point is indicated so that an ascent can be precisely planned and assessed.
Climbing routes are given names that are usually determined by first-time climbers for the respective route. Climbing routes are published in relevant magazines and special climbing guides . The special case of a climbing route is the direttissima , which is based on the fall line and often leads almost perpendicular to the goal.
Colloquially, a route is often referred to as a line , while a bouldering route is also referred to as a problem .
