Bell wire is laid as a signal line between the signal transmitter (e.g. a button ) and the signal receiver (e.g. a bell ). The cable can be routed on the wall surface (surface-mounted installation), in the plaster layer (plastered installation) or under the plaster layer (concealed installation) in the masonry . To better protect the line, the bell wire can be laid in a conduit. The wires are identified by different colors. For example, telephone lines are often used as bell wires for large installation work in a new building , as there are many individual lines or wire pairs that are color-coded in different ways in a cable .
